Mustang likes to skate the edges. His writing flits aimlessly between mystery, fantasy, science fiction, horror, historical, “literary” (whatever that means) and the ever-popular “what the heck do you call that, anyway?” As one publisher said, “I don’t know whether to categorize this piece as literary, science fiction, fantasy, or horror.” (To everyone’s surprise, he bought it anyway.)
Mustang writes what interests him. He is genuinely thrilled and surprised when a publisher buys a story, but is equally excited when a “free” market publishes one. Most of the time, he probably just wants to get the darned thing out of his office so he can stop brooding over it.
